Hello Everyone -
Direct Supply has been graciously hosting and sponsoring our group for well over a year now, and we are very appreicative. Due to a variety of reasons that have asked that all guests not arrive more than 30 minutes prior to the meeting. If you are coming to the Architecture SIG before hand, this especially applies to you. It is disruptive to have many people there early while people are still working. They have also asked that I announce that they will be closing the gates at 7:30 PM as well so that their security staff can go on about their regular business, so please be there before that or you may not be able to get into the building.
Also, I wanted to remind you that Direct Supply has always been very accomodating to our group. It goes without saying that we should remember to show their staff and property the highest respect. They don't have to host us, but they choose to. Please keep that in mind while you are on their campus.
Thank you.

The primary means for members of the WI .NET Users Group to interact with each other is through our monthly meetings. We meet in the Milwaukee area to try and make it as easy as possible for people to participate in our meetings. We will make every attempt to promptly include presentations and example code from our meetings on this site as soon after the meeting as possible. Visit the Resources tab, then click on Presentation Downloads where you will find all of the presentations and code conveniently located in one location for your use. To register for upcoming events, all you need to do is register on our site, then once logged in, visit the meetings tab and click register directly below the meeting(s) you wish to register for. To un-register, repeat this process and you will see an un-register link to click on. By registering in advance for our meetings, you help us prepare the right amount of refreshments, the right facilities size, the equipment, and ensure the right number of raffle prizes and sponsors. Thank you for helping us make the WI .NET Users Group as valuable for all of us as possible. If you have ideas, suggestions, criticism, or praise for any particular meetings, please let us know by using the contact form on the home page of this site. Thank you! |

June 2010 - Multi-Touch and the User Experience
|
|

We've come a long way since the DOS command prompts when they were the most popular way to interact with your computer... Once the mouse went mainstream in the 1980s, we started interacting with our computers in a whole new way. I believe that multi-touch is the next big step in our user experience with machines. Microsoft has given us development tools and libraries to build engaging user experiences for our applications. Manufacturers are shipping devices with multi-touch features built-in. For my presentation, I'm going to talk about the touch interfaces on Windows platforms including Windows 7, Windows Phone, Zune HD, and .NET Micro Framework. I'll show you how to write code to access the touch events in your .NET applications.

January 2010 - NSlim and FitNesse: The Robot Killer

One of the keystones of the Agile Methods is automated testing. In Agile Projects requirements are expressed as executable tests. These tests are written in a high level language that is easily understood by business analysts and stakeholders. The tests are written by collaboration between the business analysts, QA, and the developers. These tests are accumulated on an intranet site and can be run by any project stakeholder at any time. The number of tests passing gives a clear indication of what is working, what isn't working, and how much progress the team is making on a day to day basis.
In this talk the speaker demonstrates FitNesse, an open source tool for organizing, expressing and executing acceptance tests. He describes the process for writing and executing these tests, and discusses the experiences of teams that are using this approach.

Business Intelligence (BI) has become increasingly important in today's marketplace, from the smallest businesses up to the largest firms. Understanding what makes good BI starts with proper foundations. Those foundations are best understood by asking "What is BI?", working through a few common approaches and finishing by diving into building a real BI solution. We'll use Microsoft technologies to build many of the common BI foundational components including a warehouse, an ETL process, an OLAP database with dimensions and a cube and Excel Pivot Tables. Another important foundation of a successful BI project is the organization of the project collateral during the development lifecycle. This session will cover the usage of Visual Studio 2008, building up all of the BI collateral into one VS2008 solution.
About Christopher J. Barwick Chris is the Enterprise Data Analytics Team Lead for Big Hammer, a division of Edgenet. There he manages data for Fortune 500 clients and oversees many multi-terabyte projects in SQL 2005, SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2.
Because of these high profile projects and his passion for digging into new technologies, he is often engaged in early adopter programs with Microsoft. From a recent deep dive training at Microsoft on StreamInsight, a new product in SQL Server 2008 R2, to being an early adopter of the very first beta of the .NET Framework, Chris went on to start and run the largest F# Forum site hubfs.net. Microsoft's F# Developer Center on MSDN actually uses his site for their forums! Chris also has interests in WCF, F#, C#, XAML Workflows and WPF, especially in the new and upcoming VS2010. When not digging into new Microsoft Technologies, he spends time teaching Unsupervised Machine Learning algorithms to his Jack Russell Terrier "Elsa".
